Students must complete their training and pass the final exam within 90 days of registering for the course. The Cannabis Control Commission requires agents who sell or handle cannabis to complete their training within 90 days of starting work.
In 2012, medical cannabis became legal in Massachusetts under the Humanitarian Medical Use of Marijuana Act. Now, both medical cannabis use and adult use of recreational cannabis is legal under Chapter 55 of the Acts of 2017, also known as the "2017 Act." Agents must also meet the state's suitability standards for registration as an agent at a marijuana establishment, laboratory or medical marijuana treatment center. These requirements are outlined in 935 CMR 500.802 and 803 and 935 CMR 501.802 and 803.
Students must pass a 40-question final exam with a score of 70% or higher. Learners have an unlimited number of attempts to pass.

Certificates are available to download and print immediately after course completion. Certificates expire one year from the issue date. Massachusetts requires agents to retake the course annually.
